Fake Army Captain Exposed: Man Arrested for Duping Women

A 40-year-old man from Odisha’s Balasore district has been arrested in Lucknow for allegedly masquerading as an Army captain to deceive women into relationships and defraud them of large sums of money. Haider Ali, who introduced himself as “Hartik Beglo,” the fake army captain,  claimed to be an officer of the Army Medical Corps, police said.

The Modus Operandi

Haider Ali reportedly used fake Army credentials to establish relationships with women, earning their trust before asking for money under various pretexts. After receiving the money, he would cut all ties with the victims and move to a different state to find new targets. According to investigators, the accused funded a lavish lifestyle through his fraudulent activities.

The scam came to light when a woman in Lucknow grew suspicious of his actions and filed a police complaint. The ensuing investigation revealed a trail of deceit spanning several states, including Hyderabad, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.

Online Persona and Fake Documents

Ali maintained multiple Instagram profiles under names like “Indiancammandoharik,” “armanbeglo,” and “armybeglo,” posting pictures of himself in Army uniform to reinforce his false identity. Police have recovered a range of incriminating items from his possession, including an Army uniform, three-star flaps, a beret, a fake Aadhaar card, an Army canteen card, and other documents. Authorities are now probing whether Ali has a prior criminal record.

Revelations and Arrest

Senior police officer Nipun Agarwal disclosed that the complainant accused Ali of not only cheating her financially but also exploiting her emotionally and physically. During interrogation, Ali admitted to deceiving at least four women, convincing some to finance cars for him and lending him significant amounts of money. Police are now analyzing his call records to identify additional victims.

A Trail of Deception

Further investigations revealed that Ali had worked with various security firms across multiple cities, using these roles as a cover for his fraudulent activities. His calculated moves to different states after each scam helped him evade law enforcement for years, until his arrest in Lucknow.

Law enforcement agencies are now working to uncover the full extent of Ali’s scams, verifying whether his criminal activities extend beyond the reported cases. The police have urged potential victims to come forward and report similar experiences.
