Maruti Suzuki Achieves Record-Breaking Sales in 2024, Surpasses 17.90 Lakh Units
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, concluded the calendar year 2024 with exceptional sales figures, achieving an all-time high of 17.90 lakh units. This marks a notable growth from the 17.43 lakh units sold in 2023. December 2024 alone witnessed a 30% year-on-year growth, with total sales reaching 1,78,248 units, inclusive of domestic passenger vehicles, sales to other OEMs, and exports. The rise in demand for CNG vehicles played a pivotal role, contributing 4.52 lakh units, reflecting a robust 26.3% growth in this segment.
Top-Selling Models Lead the Charge
The WagonR emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling model in 2024, recording a remarkable 1.90 lakh units. The Ertiga, Baleno, and Swift followed closely, each with sales of 1.72 lakh units. The company also recorded 14,200 hybrid car sales in December, along with 1,500 units of the Jimny, further diversifying its portfolio.
Segment-Wise Breakdown of Maruti Suzuki’s Success
Mini Segment: Alto and S-Presso
The Mini segment, featuring popular models like Alto and S-Presso, saw substantial growth. December 2024 sales stood at 7,418 units, a significant leap from 2,557 units in December 2023. These vehicles remain favourites among first-time buyers and those seeking budget-friendly options.
Compact Segment: Baleno and Swift
The Compact segment, including top-performing models such as Baleno, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Ignis, and Celerio, sold 54,906 units in December 2024, up from 45,741 units in the same period last year. Over 6 lakh units were sold during April to December 2024, reinforcing this segment as a cornerstone of Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio.
Mid-Size Segment: Ciaz
The Ciaz sedan maintained a steady demand, with 464 units sold in December 2024, mirroring the previous year’s figure of 489 units. This segment appeals to buyers seeking a mix of comfort and affordability.
Utility Vehicles: A Stellar Performer
Utility vehicles, including models like Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, Invicto, and XL6, continued to dominate, with 55,651 units sold in December 2024. The UV category remains a stronghold for Maruti Suzuki, contributing significantly to its overall growth.
Vans: Eeco Stays Strong
The Eeco van recorded sales of 11,678 units in December 2024, up from 10,034 units in the same period the previous year. Its practicality and affordability continue to make it a favourite for both personal and commercial use.
Commercial Vehicles: Super Carry
In the light commercial vehicle segment, the Super Carry registered impressive growth with sales of 2,406 units, compared to 1,714 units in December 2023, reflecting the increasing demand for compact and efficient commercial vehicles.
CNG Models Drive Growth
A significant contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s success in 2024 was the strong demand for CNG models. The automaker sold 4.52 lakh CNG vehicles, marking a 26.3% increase year-on-year. CNG penetration rose from 30.4% in 2023 to 37% in 2024, underscoring a shift toward eco-friendly mobility options.
