Microsoft Brings AI Chatbot to Bing, Edge, and Skype for Smartphones

Microsoft has rolled out new preview versions of Bing and Edge browser apps for smartphones, complete with the company’s new AI chatbot feature. The technology, dubbed a “copilot for the Web,” is also being added to Microsoft’s Skype app. By adding Bing to a group chat, all participants can see answers to their questions in real-time. Microsoft claims that the chatbot can handle over 100 languages and translate between them.

According to a blog post by the tech giant, access to the preview program for the new AI-powered Bing has been expanded to 1 million users across 169 countries. The new Bing app for iOS and Android smartphones features a refreshed design, with a Bing icon at the bottom of the screen. Users can interact with the AI chatbot and ask it a variety of questions using their voice on both desktop and mobile.

Microsoft says that feedback on the updated AI capabilities has been 71% positive, following previous reports that the company’s AI chatbot made disparaging comments to users. To counteract this, Microsoft limited the new Bing to five consecutive queries.

Skype is also receiving AI upgrades, with the “Bing in Skype” feature, allowing users to add the chatbot to any group chat and receive real-time answers to their questions. The chatbot can suggest venues for family events, travel destinations, and weather forecasts.

These updated features are currently available to the 1 million users that Microsoft has granted access to the new AI-powered Bing, and the company says it is working to expand access to more people. Users can sign up for the company’s Bing and Edge mobile apps on iOS and Android smartphones to join the waitlist.

Microsoft has been investing heavily in AI technology, with the introduction of its chatbot and the acquisition of Semantic Machines. The company is also reportedly working on a new AI-powered feature for Excel, which will help people make more accurate predictions by recognizing patterns in data.
