S Jaishankar Parliament address

India’s Global Ascent in Diplomacy and Policy

In the face of today’s intricate geopolitical climate, India has cemented its reputation as a champion of universal peace, security, and prosperity, articulated External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his Parliament address. He emphasized how India’s foreign policy engagements, especially under the G20 presidency, have reinforced the nation’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat’ while amplifying its voice on the world stage.

India’s Expanding Global Footprint

Mr. Jaishankar emphasized India’s growing global significance, asserting the country’s position as a dependable and potent development ally. “India’s development collaboration now extends across 78 nations, and these projects are marked by their transparent, empowering, eco-friendly, and consultative nature,” he remarked. As a reflection of India’s heightened global presence, Mr. Jaishankar pointed to international engagements by key Indian dignitaries, including the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, and other Union Ministers.

Key Engagements & Achievements on the Global Stage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the U.S. between June 20-23 is an illustration of India’s increasingly prominent international role. Minister Jaishankar highlighted this visit as the second official one by an Indian premier to the U.S., with PM Modi being given the exceptional honor of addressing the Joint Session of the U.S. Congress for a second time.

India’s Role in International Crisis Management

The External Affairs Minister took a moment to reflect on India’s prompt and effective response to global crises. He detailed India’s rescue operations, including the evacuation of Indian nationals from conflict-stricken Sudan. Drawing parallels with previous rescue missions, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens worldwide. “Through initiatives like Operation Kaveri and Operation Ganga, we’ve not only ensured the safety of our own citizens but also lent a helping hand to other nations,” he declared.

A Look Ahead: G20 Presidency & Vision 2022

As 2022 dawned, marking the commencement of Amrit Kaal, India embraced the pivotal G20 presidency. This leadership role is expected to bolster India’s foreign policy, driving it closer to PM Modi’s vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat’. “Come September, we are poised to host the G20 Summit, marking a significant stride in regaining our deserved position on the global platform,” Jaishankar said.

Opposition’s Concerns Amidst the Statement

While Jaishankar’s address highlighted India’s diplomatic strides, the Parliament session wasn’t devoid of challenges. Opposition MPs consistently voiced concerns over the Manipur issue, seeking a statement from PM Modi. The Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, tried facilitating discussions on Mr. Jaishankar’s statement, but the prevalent chaos hindered the process.

Reflecting on India’s Global Position

India’s current foreign policy endeavors are more than just diplomatic gestures. They reflect a nation’s aspirations to play a pivotal role on the world stage. Whether it’s rescuing citizens from conflict zones or assuming leadership roles in global consortiums like the G20, India is signaling its readiness to shoulder greater responsibilities. In this evolving geopolitical narrative, India isn’t just another participant—it seeks to be a leading voice, advocating for global peace and prosperity.
