The IT services company, in response to queries on Sunday, confirmed that it is aware of Gupta’s situation and is actively engaged in supporting both him and his family. A company spokesperson stated that Tech Mahindra remains in close contact with the family and is coordinating with relevant authorities in India and Qatar, following due process.
Allegations of Data Theft Surface
While specific charges remain unclear, initial reports suggest that Gupta may have been implicated in a case involving data theft. His family, however, maintains that he is innocent and has been wrongly accused, possibly as a result of being the country head during an internal company matter.
Speaking to the media, his mother, Pushpa Gupta, said her son was initially detained without food or water for 48 hours. Following this, he was kept in confinement, with limited communication. It was only after he failed to respond to calls for two consecutive days that a friend alerted the family.
Pushpa Gupta also travelled to Doha to meet her son and was permitted a half-hour interaction. Seeking help from political representatives, she met Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, who has reportedly assured assistance and plans to raise the issue with the central government.
Diplomatic Awareness and Ongoing Developments
According to sources, the Indian Embassy in Qatar is aware of Gupta’s detention, although no formal statement has been issued. The exact nature of the investigation or charges, if any, remains undisclosed by Qatari authorities.
Gupta has been with Tech Mahindra for nearly 12 years, as per his LinkedIn profile. The case has raised concerns over the safety and legal rights of Indian professionals working abroad, especially in sensitive roles and regions with limited legal transparency.
With Gupta’s detention stretching into its third month and clarity still elusive, both corporate and diplomatic channels appear to be working behind the scenes to resolve the matter.
