Woman’s Remains Surface in Ghatshila Canal

On July 30, authorities in Ghatshila stumbled upon a disturbing scene: a woman’s body drifting on the culvert of a canal situated in the village of Dhobni, within the jurisdiction of the Kalichiti Panchayat.

Initial Investigation and Response

With the assistance of local social worker, Kali Ram Sharma, police retrieved the body from the canal waters. As a standard protocol, it was initially dispatched to the Sub-Divisional Hospital Ghatshila for an autopsy. However, considering potential signs of foul play, the medical officer overseeing the Subdivision hospital deemed it necessary to transfer the body to the Jamshedpur MGM Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.

SI Ghanshyam Koda of the Ghatshila police station provided some insights, noting, “From the state of the body, it appears to have been submerged in the canal for roughly three to four days. We’re met with the unmistakable scent of decay, which hints at the time that has elapsed.” Local residents were the first to spot and report the unidentified woman’s body. Koda further added that there haven’t been any recent missing women reports in the proximate police districts.

Given the preliminary observations, there’s a prevailing hypothesis among the locals that the woman may have accidentally drowned during a bath in the canal. However, as the case progresses, the authorities are keeping an open mind and not ruling out other possibilities until concrete evidence is provided.
